Thank you so much for ...Loved the article, Michael! Thank you so much for all the valuable information. A couple of questions: 1. Were you ever able to determine when Franz Hofdemel was born? and 2. According to Francis Carr (Mozart & Constanze, p 152) when Magdalena Hofdemel once visited the Czernys, she asked Carl Czerny's father Wenzel if she could hear Beethoven play some of his music while he was there giving a lesson to son Carl Czerny. Wenzel proposed this to Beethoven, who allegedly responded, "Hofdemel? Isn't that the woman who had the affair with Mozart?" Czerny confirmed it and then Beethoven said he would not play in front of her, but later had his mind changed. Carr sources Otto Jahn for this information in Gesammelte Aufsätze (Leipzig, 1886), p. 330.
